In 2016, Kevin Johnson was convicted of first degree murder based on the prosecution’s theory that he aided and abetted Kanasho Johns, the shooter, by picking Johns up at Johns’s apartment and driving him two blocks—about half of the distance to the scene of the murder. Johnson was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. In 2024, Johnson petitioned for vacatur of his murder conviction and resentencing pursuant to Penal Code1 section
