W. David T. (Husband) appeals from several rulings made by the trial court in connection with his obligation to provide child support. We affirm.


Background


Laura N. (Wife) and Husband were married on September 29, 1989. They separated on June 12, 1994. Their daughter, the minor, is their only child. Husband has been convicted of 14 counts of sexually molesting the minor and her babysitter, and is serving a term of 265 years in California state prison. Husband originally was ordered to pay monthly spousal support of $7,143 and child support of $2,914. The record discloses that Husband, heir to a substantial fortune, had the means to pay spousal and child support, but consistently refused or failed to pay, similarly refusing or failing to pay the court-ordered fees of Wife's attorney.


In April 1998, the court entered judgment of dissolution providing, in part, that Husband would pay Wife $100,000 for existing and future spousal support and $118,772 for spousal and child support arrearages. The judgment also incorporated a marital settlement agreement which, among other things, addressed the question of child support. The agreement provided that child support would be $2,914 per month, but that support would be â€
