Paramedics responding to an emergency call on March 10, 2003 found three-year-old Yessenia Garcia breathing, but unconscious and unresponsive to stimuli, on the floor of the apartment where she lived with her mother Melissa Sue Osuna and her mother's boyfriend Ray Timothy Ponce. Yessenia was taken to a hospital and placed on life support.
