IN THE COURT OF APPEAL OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
SECOND APPELLATE DISTRICT
DIVISION FIVE
In re K.T., a Person Coming B351266
Under the Juvenile Court Law.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY (Los Angeles County
DEPARTMENT OF Super. Ct. No.
CHILDREN AND FAMILY 19LJJP00309C)
SERVICES,
Plaintiff and Respondent,
v.
C.R. et al.,
Defendants and Appellants.
APPEAL from orders of the Superior Court of Los Angeles
County, Stephanie M. Davis, Judge. Dismissed.
Paul A. Swiller, under appointment by the Court of Appeal,
for Defendant and Appellant C.R.
Marissa Coffey, under appointment by the Court of Appeal,
for Defendant and Appellant K.T.
Dawyn R. Harrison, County Counsel, Jacklyn K. Louie,
Assistant County Counsel and Jessica S. Mitchell, Principal
Deputy County Counsel for Plaintiff and Respondent.
C.R. (mother) appeals from the juvenile court’s disposition
orders denying her family reunification services with respect to
minor K.T. (born May 2025) under Welfare and Institutions Code
section 361.5, subdivision (b)(10)(A).1 Mother contends there is
insufficient evidence to support the court’s finding she failed to
make reasonable efforts to address the mental health and
substance abuse problems that led to the removal of minor’s older
half sibling, T.H. (born October 2017), with whom mother failed
to reunify.
On October 23, 2021, we provided the parties an
opportunity to address whether we should take judicial notice of
the juvenile court’s October 9, 2026 order granting mother
reunification services and declare mother’s appeal moot. Mother
filed a letter brief acknowledging that she is now receiving
reunification services and agreeing that her appeal is moot. The
Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services
filed a letter brief submitting the matter to the court in light of
mother’s non-opposition to the taking judicial notice of the
October 9, 2026 order and to the dismissal of the appeal.
“ ‘An appeal becomes moot when, through no fault of the
respondent, the occurrence of an event renders it impossible for
the appellate court to grant the appellant effective relief.
[Citations.]’ (In re Esperanza C. (2008) 165 Cal.App.4th 1042,
1 Father also filed a notice of appeal from the same orders,
but this court dismissed father’s appeal on June 12, 2026, after
father's appointed counsel was unable to identify any arguable
issues, and father, after notice and an opportunity to submit
briefing himself, did not present any issues for the court’s
consideration. (See In re Phoenix H. (2009) 47 Cal.4th 835, 838.)

1054.)” (In re Anna S. (2010) 180 Cal.App.4th 1489, 1498.)
Taking judicial notice of the minute order entered on October 9,
2026, (Evid. Code, § 452, subd. (d)), we dismiss mother’s appeal
as moot.
DISPOSITION
The appeal is dismissed as moot.
